National Association for Healthcare Quality Wins “2017 Power of A Gold Award”

The National Association for Healthcare Quality (NAHQ) was honored with the 2017 Power of A Gold Award for its HQ Essentials resource, which ensures healthcare quality professionals are well prepared to serve and lead in the quality roles of today and tomorrow.

ASAE honored NAHQ’s resource, which is a framework for ongoing individual and organizational assessment and development across the continuum of care at advanced and master levels.

“Congratulations to NAHQ for paving the way for a solution that makes a significant positive contribution to America’s healthcare system,” said Sharon J. Swan, FASAE CAE Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and chair of the Power of A Awards Judging Committee. “Their initiative exemplifies how we work best when we work together and how associations have a positive influence on our everyday lives in every way.”

Published in February 2017, the resource includes six critical competency areas: Performance and Process Improvement, Population Health and Care Transitions, Health Data Analytics, Patient Safety, Regulatory and Accreditation, and Quality Review and Accountability. Educational resources, including career profiles and webinars, have been developed for each area. NAHQ will continue to supplement and refresh these resources with more educational content and refresh existing resources with new and relevant information important to healthcare quality professionals and healthcare organizations.

The network of volunteers within NAHQ was the power and brain trust behind the creation of the HQ Essentials. Six rapid-cycle work groups, each working independently and sequentially over a four- to five-month span, developed the content for each competency area. Each competency work group was composed of 12 to 15 volunteers representing settings across the continuum of healthcare. An oversight group of dedicated volunteer leaders oversaw the two-year project.

“Providing meaningful education opportunities to our constituents has always been a top priority,” said Stephanie Mercado, CEO and Executive Director of NAHQ. “Receiving an award for our HQ Essentials resource is a great honor. This would not have been possible without the hard work of our employees and the 103 volunteers who helped make the HQ Essentials possible. Together we hope to continuously improve the quality of healthcare.”

ASAE’s Power of A (association) Awards, the industry’s highest honor, recognize the association community’s valuable contributions on the local, national and global levels. The Power of A Awards reward the outstanding accomplishments of associations and industry professionals who work tirelessly to strengthen lives, the workforce, our systems and structures, the economy and the world.

Overall, NAHQ’s healthcare quality initiatives positively affect thousands of people looking to advance their career in the healthcare quality profession. For more information on the HQ Essentials please visit: http://nahq.org/education/hq-essentials
